Here I am in Oceanside, CA!

It's 9:45 in the morning and I'm throwin back a beer. Unemployment is super sweet!

Our road trip was a total blast, but very short-lived. The weekend before we left, I broke my effin foot! We left on the 21st & drove to Amarillo, through Oklahoma, and it rained the entire way until we got there. Stayed at "the grand canyon of Texas" ... Palo Duro Canyon. It was pretty and free so yay to that! Next morning we ate the hugest breakfast ever and set off to SANTA FE! It was amazing there. Got there pretty early in the afternoon, pitstopped at REI for some gloves, drove around to see the sights, badass trains, amazing adobe architecture, humble and quaint. We loved it there. Went up a mountain to Santa Fe National Forest to set up camp, but Harrison started to get real worried about the broken foot situation and thought it would be best to make our way to California the next day. We drove to Gallup, NM a couple hours away and stayed at Red Rock Park - the most stars I have ever seen in my life! Woke up the next morning, got gas, and drove drove drove to California only making a 90 minute stop in Flagstaff (also gorgeous).

Now what? I've been looking for galleries and making jewelry to sell somewhere like a local farmers market perhaps. I would love to dedicate my time to only my passions - my art, volunteer work for animals/environment, making jewelry... sounds good!

In other news:
WHAT THE FUCK IS THIS OIL SPILL ABOUT? If the US doesn't know how to stop an oil spill and fix the situation, why the hell are we drilling in our oceans?! It seems pretty obvious that this shouldn't be happening. Check out this sweet blog: http://irregulartimes.com/index.php/archives/2009/10/27/oil-spill-repair-delayed-yet-again/

Goin' to California!

I'm really going! Harrison is packing my car right now and we're leaving at 10AM tomorrow!!!

First stop - Amarillo. We're driving north through Oklahoma and then headed east, back through Tejas for a minute and stopping at the "Grand Canyon of Texas" aka Palo Duro Canyon. Just staying a night, since we don't want to be in a rush especially now that I have a broken foot. We went to Austin for my last weekend in the big TX. Met this way cool dude at a chopper shop, hung out with him at his sweetest house I've ever seen, then we girls took a lil walk with the dogs in the woods. I climbed a railing jumped off, and completely effed my foot but hey, I can totally drive! My antique bunny Rabbit WILL make it to San Diego.
Aaand 2nd stop - Santa Fe National Park = free camping and 12 miles from downtown! super sweet

Side note: October 24 is a global day for climate change. Go to 350.org and check out what's going on in your neck of the woods. We'll be doing a march to the capitol in Santa Fe!

3rd Stop - probably Flagstaff... I hear it's pretty.
Last Stop - Oceanside, CA We plan to be there by October 30th.

I'm a reindeer for Halloween, not Christmas. Wish I could help load the car! Stupid broken foot.

What if...

"I am one single person with a strong passion to commit my life to educating as many people as I can about climate change and doing everything I can to help animals and the environment. I am one person who has already inspired others to recycle, to go on clean-ups, to turn off lights and unplug toasters, to buy locally grown food... I'm one person that has probably influenced a lot more than 10 people in my life and I am one person who will continue educating others about my beliefs, my theories, my passions, etc. to anyone who will give me the time of day until I stop breathing. That is the point I'm trying to get across - every person can make a difference when every person turns into thousands or millions of people. What ifs don't matter. What if we don't know what is going to happen and we need to do what we can in hopes that the world will go on without mass devastation to all of the planet's ecosystems. Let's respect that as a possibility." -exerpt from an e-mail I wrote today

Tongass National Forest

Learn about the Tongass National Forest & sign petitions to help protect it. It's one of the largest remaining protected areas of Temperate Rainforest and it is in peril. While in office, George Bush outlawed the bill passed by former President Clinton - Roadless Rule Conservation Act - so we can soil more land with civilization. Let's protect what we have left.

Amazing article and I'm inspired.

I don't want to work a meaningless job. I want to do something I'm proud of and can 100% dedicate myself to. I want to start an organization, a fundraiser of some sort... to raise money for something I feel passionate about and I need to make a change.

This article is about a man who rolled out of bed, went to Haiti, saw that something needed to be done, and dedicated his life to deworming children. Read it and be inspired.

Plastics are the worst idea.

This is garbage, mainly plastics, floating around the ocean and it's not just there, it's everywhere. Take a walk outside, just a block or two and I'm certain you'll find a plastic bag or spoon or food container laying on the ground or in a nearby stream. In landfills, plastic takes approximately 700 years to decompose. There is the option of recycling, but the process uses lots of unnecessary energy, electricity, and water as well as costing mas dinero and many plastics can't even be recycled. Researchers recently found that plastics decompose much faster in water - they think it only takes about a year... but this is terrible news! The chemicals released into waters all over the world leach into ecosystems and the fish that live in them. People as well as birds and many other wildlife eat those fish and that spreads through basically the entire circle of life. Why is this much plastic necessary and why can't people dispose of their plastic properly?

Let's say no to plastic bags and use those nifty reusable tote bags you see everywhere. I'm sure you have a few laying around the house - why not cut out 200-500 plastic bags a year by using those? What does it hurt? And why not save some money, buy a water filter and re-use a bottle instead of buying bottled water? You're not just doing the world a favor, you are doing yourself a favor as well as many generations to come. Think about what you buy when you walk into a store. Every dollar you spend is a vote as a consumer.

I have an obsession...

with hobos.
Some people say it's not politically correct to call them that, but I don't affiliate it with bad things I suppose... I really have an obsession with anyone who lives life differently than the rest of society. But moreso, I thoroughly enjoy capturing hobos on film:

Comfy Hobo [Venice]
Isn't she gorgeous??? I know. And she's absolutely comfortable with life in her pink stripey socks. Pretty much my fave hobo picture of all time.

Intro...

Note - all blogs are about me and I speak for no other parties.
San Diego - last month

Today was just another day:
It's Monday so no work for me. Took care of a couple errandy things like I normally do on Mondays. Woke up in my boo's bed, went downstairs, had a real funny conversation with his upstairs next door roommate:

"Can you do me a favor?" - roomie
"Probably, what is it?" - dd
"Can you stop going to the bathroom early in the morning?"
"I have to pee at night."
"Can you stop?"
"Do you want me to go downstairs?|"
"I want you to stop peeing."
"People have to pee at all times of the day."

weird kid.

Had to get a new drivers license at the DMV since I lost it a while back - been using my passport and I must admit I feel real cool when I go to bars. Recently I attained several more tickets to add to my collection, one being driving without a license, so I needed to finally take care of that. Good news: the DMV only took literally 5 minutes to get in and out (burger eww)! 7 tickets in 6 months - what... the... fuck?!

OFFICIAL MOVE DATE - October 19
I'm moving in with my boyfriend's mama in Oceanside, right 10-15 minutes walking distance from the beach where everyday is gorgeous and filled with new adventures/inspirations/ideas... finally getting out of Tejas!!! Been here way too long. 20 years is enuff. Looking to work for a non-profit group while I'm there and spend a lot of time on my art & outdoors. The mama is helping me get on the ball with art, maybe find interested parties. We'll see where my muskrat lover Harrison goes with his job.
